I agree with Ashish. They tend to retain strings of fecal matter overhead for protection http://www.flickr.com/photos/asanuma/567... One of yours has begun this behavior. Weevils do this too http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/805...

I would say yes to Ashish's suggestion: Tortoise beetle larvae. Chrysomelidae, Cassidinae.
