Reddish-brown and black body with distinctly patterned wings. These flies wave their wings in a rowing motion when they walk around. I think their faces look a little horse-like. Breeds in decaying organic matter (of which there is plenty at this location).

These flies are fairly common here. They hang out on the grill and the kids play equipment a lot. In picture 3, the fly was eating something I couldn't identify.

The second and fourth shots really show what a distinctive face (and head shape) it has. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
