Crown Vetch

Securigera varia

Description:

Crown vetch grows 1-2 feet tall and has small clusters of 1/2-inch purple and white flowers.

Habitat:

Growing along a sandy, well-worn nature trail between a river and a meadow at Bent of the River Audubon.

Notes:

It's a tough, aggressive spreading plant that will crowd out other plants. It can grow for decades with little to no fertilizing or weeding because its thick foliage prevents weeds from growing around it.

Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
