Ochre Sea Star

Pisaster ochraceus

Description:

Orange-purple Sea Star with white spines. The first image shows the surface that looks like there are clear worm-like organisms covering it. The orange spot is the madreporite. The second image is of one with the underside exposed. I'm not sure what is on it or if this is the normal appearance. Last image shows how well they can blend in when in plain sight.

Habitat:

Tidepools in Dana Point
