Star-Flowered False Solomon's Seal

Smilacina stellata aka Maianthemum stellatum

Description:

Leaves are alternate, sessile and lanceolate with parallel veins. Flowers are white and star-like blooming in a terminal cluster of 5-10. Fruit are round greenish-yellow berries with reddish stripes and mature to be dark blue or reddish-black.

Habitat:

Moist forest floor, common in valleys. They like partial shade and grow alongside false Solomon's seal (Smilacina racemosa).

Notes:

Berries are edible but not particularly palatable.
