Buteo lineatus
15" - 18", black tail with narrow, white bands. Dark wing linings, crescent "windows" near tip of wing.
Forest, woodlands.
noticeable call with high pitch inflection at end of call. i have also taken notice to the fact that red-shouldered hawks are notoriously elusive - making it very hard to get better pictures. easy enough to spot but come within 100 yards or get out of your car and boom! gone.
