Cicada shell

Cicadidae (family)

Description:

There are about 150 species in South Africa.

Notes:

This was a really cool find. My dad thought there was a strange looking beetle on this pipe - when I took a closer look, I realised that it was just an empty shell!

Must be cool to see a live one! :) I bet they do get noisy, I've heard people complain about them.

Ah cool! Thanks Jake - I've never seen a cicada before, so didn't know that's what it is. Thanks for the heads up, I'll update my spotting.

That's a cicada shell but I'm not sure what species of cicada. Very nice find!
