Parasitic Fly

Archytas apicifer

Description:

The silvery white face helps to ID this fly to the Archytas genus. The abdomen is black with numerous bristles. The abdomen is brownish gray and also bristly. About 1 cm in length.

Habitat:

I photographed this fly in a suburban yard next to a deciduous forest.

Notes:

This fly is a parasite on moth caterpillars, especially forest tent caterpillars.
