Christmas Beetle

Anoplognathus sp.

Description:

Metallic golden red beetle with hints of green shimmer. About 2cm in length. I have never seen one this colour, the high gloss & metallic shine are not as brilliant in the photo as in real life.

Habitat:

Found on felled Acacia sp. tree in dry woodland forest.

Thanks venusflytrap2000. It's exciting to find tiny jewels amongst the forest greens & browns.

That's what I thought too Mark. But each night is filled with the droning humm of hundreds of beetles as dusk falls, particularly black beetles which litter the ground each morning. The local shopping centre always has them piled up at the entrance door. They should start to thin out soon. And so many unusual looking ones this season, spectacular colours.
