Butorides virescens
This lovely green heron was seeking some shelter under the dense foliage of Big Cypress National Preserve in south Florida. Green herons are quite abundant throughout the Floridian peninsula, but are a bit more shy than the great blue herons, snowy egrets, little blue herons, and tricolored herons. At least, in my experiences. I was happy to have been so close to this one. (Thank you, south Florida rain!) [jansonjones http://dusttracks.com]
