Flightless pentatomid bugs

Tinganina dimorpha

Description:

Unusual looking stink bugs flat, wide, with diminished wings yet obviously not nymphs !? Larger one (fem?) was about 18mm long.

Habitat:

On a pomaderris leaf in a nearby state forest reserve. Bunyip State Park.

Notes:

Ok found it. The tree is good but this one is in a genus with only one species.
family: PENTATOMIDAE
subfamily: Pentatominae
tribe: Halyini

The link to 'Insects of Tasmania' shows what Tony describes as a fully winged adult.

The strangest spotting ! nymph-like bugs mating ....can three out of four parts of a normal (adult) wing. Also, the wings on these hug the scutellum unlike those of nymphs were they stick out straight.

Good spotting !

Oh that's excellent Martin. Bound to become an ultimate reference. Not too sure about the unAustralian leaves in the surround :) Let us know if you need anything. I'll go on playing with it over the next few days and follow up with more detailed comment. Well done.

Mating gives some good clues.
