Blue Dasher

Pachydiplax longipennis

Description:

Medium sized dragonfly (1 1/8 to 1 3/4 inches). The male is powdery blue with a white face. This distinguishes it from the similarly marked, and green-faced Western Pondhawk. Coloration is different by region, and so images for a specific region should be followed for identification.

Habitat:

Males are highly territorial, and choose prominent resting points, often on bent stems over water. They prefer still water.

Notes:

These images were shot at Eldorado Park in Long Beach, CA.

I'm happy you guys like him! He was such a willing model. I only shoot in nature and I don't use canned air. I love that it almost looks like he's got a puppy nose and a grin :)
