Ok. I'll go with the Large Brown longicorn Beetle until anyone can come up with anything better. Thanks guys!

Lol, embarrassed. You went to the trouble of buying the reference materials so I should at least wait until you have worn a few dog's ears in the pages before I leap into pretending I know anything about beetles. Agree with you on the subject size. Looking at books on moths, $400 for one of a number of volumes on one sub-family or some such thing (head reels)

Embarrassed SS? So far the book only humbles me about the size of the subject. I'm glad I didn't get the really serious ones - 'Australian Beetles volumes' (then again I would never have been able to pay the courier let alone the up-front costs) We just go with field guides. X virescens looks ok to me Kerry but sorry it's not in our little book. I'm up to my knees in unposted longicorn spottings.... then there's the weevils !

Sorry Mark, A bit embarrassed. I forgot you have the book now (something I am very jealous of by the way).

I don't even try with beetles. I'm way behind with any type of bug. But that doesn't mean they are not interesting. Thanks for having a try.

Oh Kerry... we just got a beetles book to help with ID's and I'm still suffering from capacity shock. There's so many of just cerambycidae and most still not described. :-( If I see one similar I'll let you know.

Hahaha! Always great to hear your comments Mark! Now! Can you tell me what it is?

Kerry, It is a Longicorn Beetle. probably Subfamily Cerambycinae which all have the forward pointing jaws and tend to be large and slender. I cannot narrow it down much more that that though

A big one! Trying to steal your cycad no doubt.
