Marmota caligata cascandensis
Found this one basking on a rock, which gave me an opportunity for some close ups. Basking is common for them in the morning and as the day warms up they will move to their den or go foraging. Pic 4 shows some of the rocky terrain they live in. Pic 5 shows another one checking for scents in the air. They also communicate using scent, both by defecation, and by marking rocks or plants using scent glands on their cheeks.
Spotted along the Skyline trail above Paradise at Mount Rainier around 7500 ft.
