Green Grocer Cicada

Cyclochila australasiae

Description:

Big, green bug! Doesn't move at all during day, sitting still for camoflage. Chirrups in the evening.

Habitat:

Leafy undergrowth, in this case in a suburban garden.

Notes:

Found in my front yard after discovering his exuviae (discarded nymph exoskeleton) on a leaf nearby, and another exuvia on a garden ornament. Photographed next day after rain. Seen the following evening sitting on a leaf right next to other cicada. I'm sorry I didn't get a photo of that because it's the last I saw of them.
