Two-striped grasshopper

Melanoplus bivittatus

Description:

Relatively large, smooth, usually yellowish and brown (sometimes greenish or blackish) with two distinct pale yellowish stripes along sides of top. Male with cerci roughly boot-shaped. (information from BugGuide)

Habitat:

Tallgrass prairie

Notes:

This spotting took place at the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve.

Acrididae, Melanoplinae, Melanoplini and most probably one of the many Melanoplus sp., sorry, I do not have the time before Xmas to check all the candidates carefully. Maybe you find some time during the holidays.
