A medium sized fish. Found hiding under a large rock in a tidepool. Brown and black speckled with grey. Rayed, fan-like pectoral fins.

It's a greenling, most likely a female kelp greenling (Hexagrammos decagrammos) though the color seems off.

It's not a black rock fish. Rock fish have spines on their dorsal fins and the body shape looks wrong. Good luck though!
