Silver-spotted Skipper

Epargyreus clarus

Description:

Widespread and found in about any type habitat except coastal marshes. This is a large and very widespread skipper and the large white spot makes it easy to identify.

Habitat:

Open Woodlands

Notes:

The North Carolina Welcome Center on I-26 northbound has some excellent plants for attracting butterflies. I saw another Silver-spotted Skipper being eaten by a Carolina Mantis.
