A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Carduel flammea
5-5 1/2 inches. Smaller than a sparrow. Pale, brown streaked, with a bright red cap and black chin. Male has a pink breast. Their was a hugh flock of these energetic little birds. They are quite tame and trusting, and allow close approach; unfortunately this trait causes them to fall prey to predators.
Weedy fields in winter.
