Cardinalis cardinalis
A robin-sized songbird with bright red features across body in males & a more brownish/gray overall body in females (see final photo). Bright red bill & black facial mask makes males stand out.

This male cardinal was on the woodland edge along a bike path near a suburban area of Fairfax County, Virginia. These photos were taken with a Canon EF100-400 f/4-f/5.6 lens mounted on a Canon Rebel T2i.

Greetings (also Fairfax Co.) - Here's a new one for me this spring... Watching 2 male Cardinals swooping around backyard area (overlooking Little Difficult Run) in tandem on several occasions. Never saw this activity before...fascinating!

They are gorgeous birds, and they never seem to want to sit still for long in the open, I'm glad this pair cooperated.
Never seen Cardinals look so pretty! The Mrs. looks gorgeous!
