Description:

A bright yellowish fungus covering a scar on a 6 in. dia. pine tree.

Habitat:

Spotted in a forest with open meadows.

Notes:

This pine tree had gone through a traumatic event some time in the past, but is able to keep living.

Any photos of the pine needles or the rest of the tree? It might help to know the species of pine.

Rust fungus. Maybe a Cronartium sp. or Endocronartium sp.
