Spiny Softshell turtle

Apalone spinifera.

Description:

Lacking the hard shell of most turtle species. The soft shell is flatter than hard shell turtles. Name comes from the spines of the front top edge of the carapace. Feet are more flat and claws are shorter.

Habitat:

This one was spotted in a pond with Red-eared Sliders.
