Red-naped Sapsucker

Sphyrapicus nuchalis

Description:

Type of woodpecker that feeds off the sap of some trees as well as eat some of the insects attracted to the sap. Black and white back and wings with white underside with gray streaks. White along the shoulders of the wings. Black face with white stripe above and below the eyes. Red throat, red crown and red patch on nape.

Habitat:

Spotted in the riparian tree and shrub along the Colombia river in a line of willows, cottonwood and saltbush.
