Heermann's Gull

Larus heermanni

Description:

Very distinctive appearances for adults: red-bill, white-headed, grey body, black tail feathers.

Habitat:

By water. Heermann's gulls breed in Mexico and can be spotted along the West coast.

Notes:

This was one of the calmest birds I'd ever seen. It was just sitting on the guard rail, not even flinching with all the tourists walking near it.

Thanks Desmond!
This was my first time seeing a gull other than a herring gull, so I was so excited that I had my camera (especially since this guy was standing so still)!

Iv'e seen Heermann's gulls before, but I'm never the one to see the males. But you did... And it's a great shot.
