Common Grackle

Quiscalus quiscula

Description:

Robin-sized blackbird with bright yellow eye / black pupil. Beak is black as well. Body is overall irridescent, showing off beautiful purple to blue colors depending on the viewing angle.

Habitat:

Common in suburban regions of North America and along waterways.

Notes:

This grackle was hopping around on a log adjacent to Lake Braddock in Fairfax County, Virginia. I took several shots as it chased after insects to feast on. These photos were taken with a Canon EF100-400 f/4-f/5.6 lens mounted on a Canon Rebel T2i.
