Dung beetle

Geotrupes spiniger

Description:

Very large , atleast the size of a 20cent piece. A big black and slightly lustrous dung beetle...shade of green in the light, lucky to see it with wings open , showing its fluff and more green.

Habitat:

Found sitting on top of wallaby dung.

Notes:

Acccording to Tas Insects site - This is a dung beetle species that was introduced to Tasmania from Europe in the early 1990's. Native species could not cope with the ecology and volume of the farmed bovine emissions.
