Carpóforo de un bello color amarillo vivo, que pierde cierta pigmentación en tiempo seco. En su primera etapa es una masa globosa que al extenderse adopta una forma lobulada, repartiendo estos lóbulos de forma irregular, pudiendo superar los 5 cm de largo y 2 o 3 de alto. Su consistencia es blanda y trémula como la gelatina.
Himenóforo que recubre toda la superficie externa de la seta, que es lisa y además brillante.
Esta Tremella (como la mayoría de su familia) Es un parásito de otro hongo, en este caso, de uno del género Peniophora (descompone madera).
Pie totalmente inexistente, se une al micelio en un solo punto a través de un hilo micelial.
Carne de consistencia gelatinosa y sin que podamos reseñar nada destacable en cuanto a olor o sabor.

Tremella mesenterica (common names include the yellow brain, the golden jelly fungus, the yellow trembler, and witches' butter) is a common jelly fungus in the Tremellaceae family of the Agaricomycotina. It is most frequently found on dead but attached and on recently fallen branches, especially of angiosperms, as a parasite of wood decay fungi in the genus Peniophora. The gelatinous, orange-yellow fruit body of the fungus, which can grow up to 7.5 cm (3.0 in) diameter, has a convoluted or lobed surface that is greasy or slimy when damp. It grows in crevices in bark, appearing during rainy weather.
Although considered bland and flavorless, the fungus is edible.

Habitat:

Es una especie cosmopolita que se puede encontrar en cualquier época del año, aunque preferentemente sale en la parte más fría del otoño y principio del invierno. Aparece de manera exclusiva sobre restos leñosos de planifolios, o incluso sobre los propios troncos. Se trata de una especie muy frecuente.

Notes:

This was found on a rural roadside under a bunch of Nothofagus Obliqua and some cherry trees.
