Western Side-blotched Lizard

Uta stansburiana elegans

Description:

Name of this lizard comes from the dark spot behind the fore leg. The pattern on these lizards are varible. Males will have a bright blue speckles and the females will not. Can be found mostly in Arizona and bordering on California and Mexico. Most of the ones I saw were no more then 5" to 6" long. Fast runners eager to get to animal holes at the base of bush rises. Very territorial with it's own kind.

Habitat:

Can be found from sandy deserts to rocky hillsides. This one was spotted in sandy desert with scrub plants.
