Description:

Body was 24-28 mm., not including forelegs.

Habitat:

Shallow, still water in a lush wetland. Fourth photo shows the habitat where this was collected (specimen was returned after the photographs were taken).

Notes:

Based upon the location, this is probably Ranatra fusca, http://bugguide.net/node/view/14962 This animal was found in a wetland area near Winfield, West Virginia. It is privately-owned land, but it is managed by the local power company as a wetland reserve for educational purposes.
