Brown-headed Nuthatch

Sitta pusilla

Description:

A small songbird the size of a chickadee; has brown on top of neck & head above eye line, white below. Back mostly grayish to brown.

Habitat:

Pine forests where it eats seeds from pinecones.

Notes:

This nuthatch has nested in the same tree over the past few seasons located adjacent to a patch of pine trees to the west, and a tidal marsh surrounding it to the north and east. I see this one often, but it has never been an easy bird to capture photos of. These photos were taken with a Canon EF100-400 f/4-f/5.6 lens mounted on a Canon Rebel T2i.
