Congratulations Greg, your Rocky Mountain Pond-lily is our Spotting of the Day:
"We're staying in Canada today with this showy, brightly-colored Rocky Mountain Pond-lily (Nuphar polysepala) as our Spotting of the Day! Also known as great yellow pond-lily, Nuphar polysepala is native to western North America. "Polysepala" means "many sepals", where sepals are outer modified leaves which are here bright yellow, large and petal-like. The flower's true petals are small and hidden near the stamens. Leaves are round to oval and usually floating, while submerged underwater are the pond-lily's thick and fleshy rhizomes. This pond-lily was spotted in the Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area in British Columbia, a site classified as a wetland of international importance (Ramsar site no. 649)".
