Falco sparverius
Blue and red back, tan chest with spots on the belly. Sexes are different, this is a male, but both species have the white face with black bars. This is America's smallest falcon. He was snacking on a bullfrog (Rana catesbeiana) which can be seen in his talons.
At a fish hatchery. Lots of ponds stocked with fish, as well as natural creeks surrounding the hatchery. Moderately wooded area with mostly juniper trees.

Beautiful!!!
Glorious images. Well done on this amazing spotting, Ashley. Poor frog doesn't look too happy.
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
