Eastern Fence Lizard

Sceloporus undulatus

Description:

A medium sized lizard with beautiful gray/brown/black scaling across the body. Males in breeding show beautiful bright blue throat and chest patches. Females are duller but still show some blue tinges (see photos).

Habitat:

Forest where they hunt on the ground and in the trees as well. Often seen running along ground away from threats to the nearest tree where they will run up to safety.

Notes:

This beautiful female was seen on the ground near the tree it must have been nesting in. You can see in the photos just how swollen her abdomen is as it is full of eggs. These photos were taken with a Canon EF100-400 f/4-f/5.6 lens mounted on a Canon Rebel T2i.
