Southern Carpenter Bee

Description:

Large (14-27 mm) solitary black bee. Often seen on the same blooms as the Eastern Carpenter bee. The thorax of the Souther Carpenter is smooth and all black.

Habitat:

Wildlife habitat garden. This bee was on the Cut-leaf coneflower, Rudbeckia herbstonne, by the ponds.
