Prickly Lettuce

Lactuca serriola

Description:

A type of wild lettuce with oblong, pinnately lobed leaves. Backs of leaves spined along veins and edges. A red-tinged stem slightly oozes a milky latex that smells extremely bitter. Open flowers are pale yellow with multiple rays.

Habitat:

Overgrown yard. Seems to prefer highly mulched, brushy areas with full sun.
