Mole Skink

Eumeces egregius

Description:

When we were digging up some flowerbeds in my yard, I thought at first we had seen a really long earthworm. It moved so fast that we did not see the legs or head at first. The tail is iridescent pink, turning orange further up, and then finally brown-gray with a slight iridescence.

Habitat:

Sandy yard with lots of paving stones near a scrubby forest
