Echinaster callosus
Also known as Callous Sea Star, Warty Sea Star, Nodular Sea Star, Thick-skinned Sea Star, Beaded Sea Star, and Lumpy Sea Star. This is a large species with five conical arms covered with bubble-like projections. Colors vary from place to place. They feed on mollusks, worms, sponges and detritus, and grow to a size of about 30cm.
Widespread in the Indo-West Pacific region, at depths of 3 to 35m.
This individual was at a depth of around 12m at the Big Ligid dive site, Samal, Philippines. It was quite big, about 20cm across.
