Double-crested Cormorant

Phalacrocorax auritus

Description:

A large seabird/shorebird with a black body, and a beautifully blue eye with an orange face.

Habitat:

Near water where they hunt for fish. Can be on freshwater, brackish, or salt water. Seen both on the coasts & inland in North America.

Notes:

This cormorant was perched on a downed tree in First Landing State Park. I have seen them often along this freshwater lake. These photos were taken with a Canon EF100-400 f/4-f/5.6 lens mounted on a Canon Rebel T2i.
