A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Agelaius phoeniceus
It maybe hard to identify but if you look carefully at this picture you will see an orangey spot on the side of third bird closest to the foreground. These birds are not too scarce but where I live the best place to see these is in Everman. They mainly stay to the Monk Parrot colonies near housing developments. The males are almost solid black but have a distinct shoulder wing patch on either side.
Urban areas that are in a dominate rural area. normally seen flocking with other birds.
I know that these birds are hard to tell many of the pictures are not in the best quality but it is these better images I am sharing with you. I am now saving for a better camera one that will have better mega-pixels and better zoom quality. However if you look closely at these birds you will find the red markings on the wings as I said in the disruption. This was the first time getting photos of these interesting birds. I took this near a laundry mat in Down Town Everman. Their was a whole flock and they were close to the Monk Parrots (see page for the nest and Monk Parrots) they were just in a swarm coming down to bathe in the puddle on the ground. it was hard to take the photo because the last couple of days have had gloomy skies and when the contrast is dark you really cant see much. They fascinated me in a way that I have never felt before I had only seen these birds in the books but never in the wild. it was a real treat because I had never seen any in my backyard or residential area. This was the first and I saw a whole flock. it was really something to see.
