Largest one was about 12 in. wide
Found in Oak Mt. State Park, central Alabama, not far from Birmingham
They're not exactly "mushroomy" but some people prefer them over all the other wild fungus. Often they are chicken fried(breaded and pan fried) but I've done a stir fry with beef tips and red wine/soy sauce and it was quite good
