Red-shouldered Hawk

Buteo lineatus

Description:

A medium sized hawk with beautiful brown & white patterning across its back. Neck & back of head are reddish brown.

Habitat:

Woodlands

Notes:

This hawk was being repeatedly attacked by a Blue Jay that must have been nesting nearby. The jay would land on a nearby branch, dive bomb the hawk, and repeat the process for about 15 minutes before the hawk finally had enough & flew off. These photos were taken with a Canon EF100-400 f/4-f/5.6 lens mounted on a Canon Rebel T2i.
