Nidula candida

Nidula candida

Description:

This is a common cup fungi @ 20X. Contained within the cup are small "eggs" containing the spores. The sides of the cup are shaped so that a drop of water falling into the cup would launch the eggs elsewhere outside of the cup.

Habitat:

Alder/salmon berry depressions. Its usually found on dead hardwood twigs on, or close to the ground.

Notes:

Also in this picture, which makes it even cooler is the little Cladonia lichen scale that is growing inside the cup!

Oh yeah thanks for letting me know. I put it as fungi. I believe the "eggs" are the role players for spore dispersal. Water in this case is the agent of dispersal.

Miles ,this could be categorized as "Fungi"
What is the purpose of misplacing the eggs? or why are they avoiding the water ? in layman terms!! :)
