Chilean Myrtle

Luma apiculata

Description:

The andean region still has and well preserves its beautiful myrtle trees; wonderful forests - like the "Bosque de Arrayanes" in the Nahuel Huapi lake - can be visited providing an energetic and wonderful walk between these delightful evergreen trees; the magnificent orange color of its trunks make this place a very unique and story-like one. The forest is in a protected area and it is the only "arrayanes" forest left; some of the trees in it are around 650 years old.

Habitat:

Central Andean region shared by Chile and Argentina.

Notes:

A magnificent forest to walk through. I looked for birds but couldn´t see any; probably because one may not just walk into the forest and must stay with its group (that sometimes becomes a bit noisy).
