Description:

4-6' tall and perhaps twice as wide. No others like it nearby - and covered with a variety of butterfly species. Flowers looked like they were at the end of their blooming stage.

Habitat:

Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. On edge of drivable 2 mile long dirt road, beside drainage ditch of water.

Notes:

Eutrochium purpureum kidney-root, sweetscented joe pye weed, sweet Joe-Pye weed, gravel root, or trumpet weed is a herbaceous perennial plant in the sunflower family.
