Turkey Vulture

Cathartes aura

Description:

Large black bird with white feathers on the undersides of its wings.

Habitat:

Spotted in the air at the south rim of the Grand Canyon in the middle of spring on a very hot day.

Notes:

The white patterns on these feathers were decidedly different than that of the California Condor I spotted the day before, but this bird never got close enough for me to get a great shot.
