Black-Headed Trogon

Trogon melanocephalus

Description:

A beautiful bird in the family Trogonidae. It is easily distinguished from other Costa Rican trogons by the yellow belly and pale blue orbital ring. Like most trogons, it is mainly frugivorous.

Habitat:

lowland dry forest

Notes:

Trogons will face away from what they view as threats (me), hiding their brightly colored underbelly. As such, I was never able get a photo from the front.
