Asphodelus albus
White asphodel in early spring before blooming. This plant grows to a height up to120 cm with a long stem, long waxy leaves at the base and thick fleshy rizomes. The roots were eaten in the old times in a similar way as leek. Nowadays it is not eaten because the raw roots contain a toxic called asphodeline.
