Long Tailed Macaque

Macaca fascicularis

Description:

The first monkeys my 11 month old daughter ever claped eyes on! While we were all entranced by this pair and the other members of this 30 or so strong troop, a large male snuck behind us and made off with a packet of biscuits from the push chair! There are several signs here asking people not to feed the monkeys as they are shy and important seed dispersal agents by nature, who just get lazy and a bit agressive when used to getting food off visitors. Seems like they're smart enough not to need any encouragement.

Habitat:

Central Catchment Area, Singapore
