Eastern Amberwing Dragonfly (male)

Description:

A small dragonfly with a short abdomen compared to the wings. Males are bright orange with orange wings except for the red markings on the leading edges.

Habitat:

This one was obelisking at the garden pond. Dragonflies perch erect , like an obelisk, to reduce the heat gain from the sun on their bodies. They also will hang down from the underside of a leaf to cool themselves.
