The prince

Agaricus augustus

Description:

a choice edible, the Prince grows to about 10 inches across. Loved by many forest creatures, it is best to take a few young caps and leave the rest to respore. The button is knob shaped and fist sized and the caps have a characteristic scaled or mottled appearance. The mushroom smells of almonds and has a lovely smokey taste

Notes:

This was a lifer, in both spottings and eatings. There was such a drought last year that this was among the first edibles we found and we start looking in July
